We currently have 40+ chickens - 5 roosters (uh oh...we may be offering some up soon) and the rest hens. Our birds are very happy and healthy and love to chat. Some of them are very friendly and enjoy being held and talked to. Some are more aloof, but still come running if they think there is a threat!
Before I started raising chickens, I had no idea about breed differences. I knew that chickens came in different sizes and colors, and lay different colored eggs. However, there is about as much personality difference between breeds of chickens as between different breeds of dogs!
Our girls currently lay eggs in all shades of beige and brown, pink, purple*, green, and blue. Some people (myself included) love the basket-of-Easter-eggs look. Other people prefer a more standard brown eggs carton. Let us know and we'll accommodate!
*Purple eggs are not a true purple - they are a result of a heavy bloom (the protective coating) appearing purple. It will wash off when you clean them. The others are shell colors!
